Below it, Alex builds the Grandmother’s body from a long, heavily oxidized silver form absolutely crawling with his pictographic language: spirals, a bear, a hand, human figures, dots, pathways and that wonderful wandering silver line moving through the composition.

Then flip her over.

The entire reverse becomes another landscape—dozens of stamped spirals and small figures scattered across polished silver.

Because apparently Alex looked at the front and thought, No. This woman has more stories.

WHY THIS PIECE MATTERS

Alex Sanchez’s work is recognizable because he has developed a visual vocabulary that feels simultaneously ancient and completely his own: petroglyph-inspired figures and symbols translated into contemporary silver.

The Grandmother format might be one of the best expressions of that idea.

Instead of simply decorating a figural silhouette, Alex turns the body itself into a field of memory.
